Artist Statement
Human perception can present things very sensitively and for me art is not just an activity, it is a passion. It is a medium that I use as an activist. I use it to describe my feelings, my pain. My work is a mixture of traditional and innovative techniques. Having done my BFA (Bachelor in Fine Arts) from F. G Degree College, I have completed my MFA (Masters in Fine Arts) from FJWU (Fatima Jinnah Women University), Pakistan in 2003, with Miniature Painting as my Major. I have done Visual Research Methods with NCAD in 2019.
I have chosen miniature because of its intricacy and delicacy of brush work which gives the work a unique identity. Most of my work is a mixture of traditional and contemporary miniature. I am always attracted by the graceful lines, rhythm and depth of colors in a miniature. My work is the constant search for the best way to interpret the ideas that expresses my own ideologies through symbolism.
Women
Artist: Hina Khan
Title: Women
Medium: Gouache on Wassli
Dimensions: 3f/9f
Collection: Private collection in Pakistan
Nationality: Pakistani
Artist Statement
This work has been produced during my thesis in University. This painting is a reflection of the women who are socially accepted and unaccepted, both are treated in the same manner, due to the patriarchal system in Pakistan. It’s about male dominance in society and how the boundaries were created to protect the patriarchal system. This large miniature painting highlights that the women of the red-light areas and women living in society normally, that they are all treated by men as puppets.
Entangled Boundaries
Artist: Hina Khan
Title: Entangled Boundaries
Medium: Mixed Medium
Size: 55cm/37cm
Artist Statement
As an artist it is difficult to understand the rigid boundaries and hard borders which are always affecting us. It is exceedingly tough to absorb the harsh realities of boundaries, particularly the boundaries and the divisions that exist between lands with whom you are emotionally connected.

Title: ‘Each of us was just a number, seared into our flesh’ Simone Veil
Medium: Mixed Medium
Size: 44cm/36cm
Artist Statement
This painting is inspired by Simone Veil who is a role model to inspire future generations. In this painting I have used a technique of washes and collage, created with handmade paper, which is called ‘Ubri’. I have created this painting as I am highly inspired by Simone’s work as a parliamentarian. She was a powerful and exemplary women and a source of encouragement for all. The numbers on the painting symbolise her detainment in a Nazi concentration camp.
